Smart space management solution company Freegrow (CEO Kim Young-sik) announced on the 23rd that it has successfully developed a real-time location system (RTLS) algorithm that enables navigation solely through geomagnetic data and has also completed a map creation service that integrates this technology.
Breakthrough in RTLS: Navigation Without Additional Infrastructure
Freegrow has built an indoor navigation solution that offers high-accuracy positioning even in environments where GPS signals are unavailable. Unlike conventional RTLS technologies, which require multiple signal sources such as UWB, Wi-Fi, and BLE, Freegrow has developed an innovative technology that relies solely on Earth’s geomagnetic data, eliminating the need for additional hardware.
This breakthrough significantly reduces deployment costs, as it can be immediately applied in existing facilities without requiring extra infrastructure. As a result, it enables indoor navigation services across a wide range of venues, including large shopping malls, airports, hospitals, and exhibition centers. Additionally, the system supports customized navigation for persons with disabilities and the elderly, ensuring accessibility for all users.
By collecting real-time data, the system also allows facility operators to analyze and optimize visitor movement patterns, enhancing operational efficiency.
Enhanced Mapping Service with RTLS Integration
The newly developed map creation service integrates RTLS technology, enabling the generation of highly precise indoor maps. Users can benefit from continuously updated navigation services, while businesses and facility managers can leverage spatial analytics to optimize operations.
Successful Indoor Navigation Demonstration at COEX
Freegrow recently conducted a successful live demonstration of its geomagnetic-based RTLS technology at COEX, one of South Korea’s largest exhibition venues. The demonstration covered:
✔ Navigation from COEX East Gate to Hall C Entrance
✔ Elevator detection and automatic floor-level transition guidance
The demonstration video showcased the seamless functionality of indoor navigation using only geomagnetic data, with precise real-time guidance. The core differentiating feature of the system lies in its ability to detect elevator usage, automatically update floor information, and provide the most optimal navigation route based on real-time changes.
Future Expansion into Smart Buildings and Healthcare Facilities
CEO Kim Young-sik stated, “With the development of our RTLS algorithm and advanced mapping technology, we can now offer a more intuitive and efficient indoor navigation solution. We plan to apply this technology in smart buildings, healthcare facilities, and large commercial spaces to drive innovation in spatial management.”
He further emphasized Freegrow’s commitment to advancing RTLS technology, stating, “We will continue to enhance this solution and expand its application across multiple industries, solidifying our position as a leading company in smart space management solutions.”
