Hello, this is Freegrow!
These days, museums, art galleries, and exhibitions focus on smart exhibition technology.
It is not only about how you design the exhibition, but also about what kind of visitor experience you provide. A key part of this is location-based curation technology. This system detects where the visitor is and gives the right content automatically.
But sometimes, using only one location technology is not enough.
The answer is BLE (Beacon) + UWB (Ultra-Wideband) hybrid system. Today, we explain why we need to use both together, and how this mix can create a smarter exhibition.
Why not only BLE or only UWB?
Location-based curation means the system knows:
- Which area the visitor is in
- Which artwork they are viewing
- How long they stay in each place
The two common methods are BLE and UWB. Each has clear pros and cons:
Technology | Strengths | Weaknesses |
---|---|---|
BLE (Beacon) | Low cost, easy to install, wide coverage | Low accuracy (1–3m), big error range |
UWB | High accuracy (10–30cm), fast response | Higher cost, more complex to install |
With only BLE, you know the visitor is in a zone, but not in front of a specific artwork. With only UWB, you get high accuracy, but it is expensive to cover entrances, corridors, and waiting areas.
Smart exhibitions use both
- Entrance, corridors, waiting areas → BLE for basic guidance
- Inside exhibition halls, in front of artworks → UWB for precise location + automatic content
This way, visitors get seamless guidance without extra actions. Operators can also collect accurate data about stay time, movement flow, and crowd density.
Field test by Freegrow
We tested a BLE+UWB system in an exhibition space:
- At the entrance and corridors → BLE starts the basic guide
- Inside the hall → UWB takes over for precise detection
- In front of artworks → Content plays automatically, no manual control needed

Visitors only need to carry their smartphone. Content appears like a docent is guiding them. No QR scanning, no app control.
This makes the experience smooth and immersive. The visitor stays focused on the exhibition.
Benefits for operators
This system is also a data tool. It shows:
- Which artworks attract long attention
- Which areas get crowded at certain times
- How smoothly people move through the space
With this data, operators can improve exhibition flow, expand popular content, or add guidance in crowded areas.
How Freegrow designs the system
We are not just a tech provider. We design systems for both visitor experience and operator efficiency:
- Mix BLE and UWB depending on space structure
- Connect location and content naturally
- Customize the system for each exhibition
- Give operators insights with movement data
Our team tests the system directly on site to ensure smooth operation.

Conclusion
BLE and UWB each have strong points. But when we combine them and apply them in the right place, we get the most practical and effective solution for smart exhibitions.
From our test, we confirmed:
- Visitors enjoy deeper immersion
- Operators manage spaces smarter
- Technology stays in the background and supports the experience
