๐Ÿ’ก What is UWB?

UWB (Ultra Wideband) is a wireless communication technology that uses a wide frequency band from 3.1 to 10.6 GHz. Compared to Wi-Fi or Bluetooth, it enables far more precise centimeter-level distance measurement, and it is resistant to interference, making it a key technology for RTLS (Real-Time Location Systems) in complex industrial environments.

Technology

How is centimeter-level measurement possible?

UWB positioning is broadly categorized into TDoA and TWR methods.
GrowSpace adopts TWR (Two-Way Ranging), known for flexible deployment and high precision.

TDoA Time Difference of Arrival

This method calculates location using the difference in signal arrival time. Since the tag only needs to transmit, it offers low power consumption and works well for large-scale logistics environments that must track thousands of tags simultaneously. Precise time synchronization between anchors is required.

  • Suitable for large-scale asset/person tracking
  • Efficient tag battery life
GrowSpace Tech

TWR Two-Way Ranging (ToF)

This method measures the round-trip time (ToF) by exchanging signals between devicesโ€”this is the technology adopted by GrowSpace. It enables easy deployment without wired synchronization and provides stable, high-precision positioning even in complex environments.

  • No wired synchronization required (easy installation)
  • Bidirectional communication for data exchange

Not sure which method fits your site?

Depending on your site scale and environment, TDoA or TWR may be more efficient. Our engineers will recommend the optimal approach.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Does it work well even in factories with lots of obstacles?

Yes. UWB has a wide bandwidth, which provides excellent diffraction (ability to bend around obstacles) and strong penetration. Even in environments with many steel structures and machines, it maintains far more stable connectivity than Wi-Fi or BLE, and it is also resilient to signal distortion caused by multipath.

Q. Can it integrate with existing systems (ERP/MES)?

Yes. GrowSpace solutions support REST APIs and the MQTT protocol, enabling easy integration with existing legacy systems (ERP, MES, WMS). We provide not only raw coordinate data but also processed event data (entry/exit alerts).

Q. How long does the tag battery last?

It depends on the environment, but for typical industrial tags, with a 1-second update interval, it can operate for about 3 to 6 months. With a power-saving mode that transmits only on events, it can last over a year.

Q. Can it be used outdoors?

Yes. Outdoor anchors are designed with IP67-rated waterproof and dustproof protection, enabling stable operation in outdoor yards, construction sites, and other harsh environments. Communication is possible over distances of up to 100m or more.

Q. Is installation difficult?

GrowSpace anchors support PoE (Power over Ethernet), allowing power and network to be delivered via a single Ethernet cable, which significantly reduces installation costs. We also provide a dedicated calibration tool for initial positioning setup.
