Mobile Anchor Distance Measurement Test by OS

Hello, this is Freegrow.

Today, we introduce a simple test using our Mobile Anchor. We wanted to see how far the distance can be measured on Android and iOS. One of the most common questions from users is: “How far can my smartphone stay connected to the Mobile Anchor?”

So we ran the same test in both operating systems and share the results here.

This test included two cases: the Mobile Anchor standing upright and laid flat. On iOS, we also checked the difference with AR correction on and off.


Test Method

The test was done using the GrowSpace mobile app.
We placed the smartphone facing the Mobile Anchor. Then we increased the distance step by step and checked the real-time UWB distance values.

Conditions:

  • Mobile Anchor standing upright
  • Mobile Anchor laid flat
  • On iOS: camera open (AR correction ON) / camera covered (AR correction OFF)

Test Location

The test was done in a wide outdoor straight space.

※ This test only checked straight-line distance. Results may change with obstacles, reflections, or different installation heights.

  • Mobile Anchor position: placed above the ground
  • Test area: moved the smartphone step by step along a straight path facing the Mobile Anchor

Test Results

Mobile Anchor Standing Upright

(1) Facing the Mobile Anchor

  • iOS: 72m
  • Android: 59m

(2) Facing the Mobile Anchor, camera covered

  • iOS: 50m

iOS showed longer distance than Android under the same condition. With AR correction, iOS reached 72m. Android also showed a strong result of 59m.


Mobile Anchor Laid Flat

(1) Facing the Mobile Anchor

  • iOS: 32m
  • Android: 26m

(2) Facing the Mobile Anchor, camera covered

  • iOS: 17m

When the Mobile Anchor was laid down, both OS showed shorter distances. The angle of the Mobile Anchor directly affected performance.
With AR correction off, the iOS distance dropped further.


Summary of Findings

  1. Mobile Anchor direction
    Longer distance was possible when the Mobile Anchor directly faced the smartphone.
  2. AR correction (iOS only)
    On iOS, AR correction made more than 20m difference.

This test gives useful data for people preparing UWB location tests or safety systems. It shows that distance can change depending on operating system and environment. Knowing this helps in real-world planning.
