Product Description

The UWB Creator Expansion Kit is a complete RTLS system designed for ultra-wideband (UWB) indoor positioning. It is built for use in various research, development, and testing environments where real-time precision tracking is essential. Based on the TWR (Time-of-Flight) protocol, the system offers sub-10 cm accuracy and high-performance data transmission.

The kit includes 4 UWB anchors, 1 gateway, 1 developer tag  and Z Bracket 4EA. It supports location data transmission over the network via MQTT and REST API. It can be integrated with server- or cloud-based control software (SpaceCloud, SpaceCloud Pro) for real-time location monitoring, danger zone configuration, and event log analysis.

Thanks to its gateway-based architecture, the system can manage larger spaces and more tags reliably. It also supports flexible server integration for experimental setups using Python, Node.js, or MQTT brokers.

What's Included

Anchor

This is a fixed UWB (Ultra-Wideband) positioning device that measures the distance to tags in indoor spaces and provides key data for calculating real-time positions.

Included Accessories

  1. Anchor Units × 4
  2. USB Type-C Cables × 4

Gateway

This is a wired and wireless network gateway device that collects position data from tags and anchors and sends it to a server (local or cloud) via the MQTT protocol.

It supports both Wi-Fi and LAN connections, making it essential for large-scale spaces and remote monitoring systems.

Included Accessories

  1. Gateway Unit × 1
  2. USB Type-C Cable × 1
  3. LAN Cable × 1 (*Additional cables available upon request)

Developer Tag

This is a mobile UWB tag used in ultra-precise UWB positioning systems.
It calculates its real-time location using the TWR (Two-Way Ranging) method and is designed for use across a wide range of applications.

Included Accessories

  1. Developer Unit × 1
  2. USB Type-C Cable × 1

Software

The software allows you to configure detailed settings for anchors, tags, and listeners, and supports real-time monitoring of tag movements.

Bracket

The Bracket is a dedicated mounting bracket designed to securely fix the Anchor in various installation environments. It supports flexible installation on walls, ceilings, and partitions, while ensuring a clearance distance of 10 cm (100 mm) to provide an optimal environment for UWB signal transmission and reception.

How to Set Up the Creator Expansion Kit

Bracket Installation Guide

The bracket is an essential accessory designed to install the anchor 10cm away from the wall, minimizing UWB signal reflection and interference and ensuring precise positioning accuracy.
If the anchor is mounted directly on the wall, signals may be reflected or absorbed, which can significantly reduce positioning accuracy.
For stable and reliable positioning, using the bracket is mandatory.

FAQ

Q. What positioning accuracy and coverage can I expect indoors and outdoors?

GrowSpace delivers 10–30 cm accuracy with a maximum range of 25 m (line-of-sight), both indoors and outdoors. Recommended anchor spacing differs by environment:

FAQ Table 1
Environment Accuracy Max range (LoS) Anchor spacing
Indoor 10–30 cm 25 m up to 15 m
Outdoor 10–30 cm 25 m up to 20 m

Indoor walls and structures reflect UWB signals, so closer spacing is recommended; open outdoor areas allow wider spacing.

You need at least 3 anchors for 2D real-time location tracking (trilateration of X and Y).

  • 1 anchor — simple distance measurement only
  • 3 anchors — 2D tracking (X, Y)
  • 4+ anchors — 3D tracking including height

Adding more anchors improves both accuracy and stability.

Yes. Positioning continues as long as 3 or more anchors stay active, since the system needs at least three working anchors to calculate location. Depending on which anchor fails, accuracy or coverage in some areas may be affected — so for critical spaces we recommend installing 1–2 extra anchors as backup.

Battery life depends on the tag type:

FAQ Table 2
Tag type Use Battery life
Wearable tag Tracking people up to 7 days
Asset tag Tracking objects / logistics up to 70 days (low-power mode)

Actual runtime varies with the update rate (e.g. 1 Hz vs 10 Hz), movement frequency, and transmission interval.

The Creator Kit Q1 includes a Listener, built for local RTLS testing. Here’s how the two compare:

FAQ Table 3
Item Gateway (in Expansion Kit) Listener
Connection Wi-Fi / LAN USB (direct)
Use Real-time operation Testing
Target Cloud, Server PC, MCU

When you move from testing to a deployed service, you can add a Gateway.

Avoid installing anchors near metal or glass surfaces — UWB signals reflect or bend on these materials, causing multipath interference that reduces accuracy.

  • Use normal walls (drywall or concrete) instead of glass walls
  • Keep anchors away from metal poles and elevators
  • If metal/glass is unavoidable, verify the measured distance and apply correction, or add another anchor

Yes. GrowSpace uses MQTT, so it integrates with Python, Node.js, Java, and other environments.

  • Use any MQTT client to receive and analyze real-time location data
  • API/SDK documentation is available to guide the connection

Location data updates at up to 10 times per second (10 Hz), and the gateway handles up to 150 messages per second.

FAQ Table 4
Update rate Tags tracked simultaneously
10 Hz up to 15 tags
1 Hz up to 150 tags

Fast and reliable even when tracking many tags at once.
