Hello! This is Freegrow.
GrowSpace’s UWB kit line comes in two configurations built around the same 10–30 cm accuracy, but sized for different stages of a project: the Creator Kit and the Creator Expansion Kit.
Both kits use the same UWB anchor-based positioning technology. The difference is in what’s in the box, how the system connects to your computer or network, and how much space and dimensionality it’s built to cover.
Today we’ll walk through exactly what’s in each kit and which one fits your situation.
Product Overview
| Item | Creator Kit | Creator Expansion Kit |

| Best for | Bench-scale testing, single room, USB-connected setups | Larger areas, always-on operation, network-connected systems |
📡 Creator Kit — for USB-connected bench testing
The Creator Kit ships with a Listener instead of a Gateway. The Listener connects directly to a PC, Raspberry Pi, or microcontroller over USB serial (UART), so you can start reading tag positions the moment the anchors are placed and calibrated — no network setup required.
Recommended for:
- Developers wiring UWB into an Arduino, ESP32, or Raspberry Pi project over serial
- Single-room or lab-scale proof-of-concept work
- Teams that want raw X/Y coordinates immediately, before building a full system
💻 Creator Expansion Kit — for networked, larger-area deployments
The Creator Expansion Kit replaces the Listener with a Gateway, which publishes tag positions over MQTT via Wi-Fi or LAN instead of a USB cable. It also ships with a 4th anchor — the minimum needed for 3D (X/Y/Z) positioning, useful when a project needs a tag’s height as well as its floor position. Because the Gateway is network-connected rather than tethered to one PC, it’s the better starting point for a setup that needs to run continuously, feed data into a dashboard or existing system over MQTT, or scale to a larger area with additional anchors over time.
Recommended for:
- Projects that need Z-axis (height) data, not just a 2D position
- Systems meant to run continuously and stream data to a server or dashboard over MQTT
- Teams planning to expand anchor coverage beyond a single room over time
Quick Comparison Guide
When choosing a kit, think about:
“Do I need this tethered to one PC for a quick test, or running continuously on a network?”
| Situation / Purpose | Recommended Kit |
|---|---|
| I want to read positions over USB serial into a Raspberry Pi or Arduino | Creator Kit |
| I want the system to run on Wi-Fi/LAN and publish to MQTT | Creator Expansion Kit |
| I only need 2D (X/Y) position in a single room | Creator Kit |
| I need height (Z-axis) data as well | Creator Expansion Kit |
| I plan to scale up to more anchors and a larger area later | Creator Expansion Kit |
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I add anchors to a Creator Kit later?
Yes — anchors, brackets, listeners, and gateways are all available individually, so a Creator Kit can be expanded with a Gateway and additional anchors as a project grows.
How many anchors do I need for 3D positioning?
At least 4 anchors are required for 3D (X/Y/Z) positioning; 3 anchors support 2D positioning only.
What’s the recommended distance between anchors?
Around 15 m indoors and 20 m outdoors, with a maximum measurable range of about 25 m per anchor.
A note on older comparisons: if you’ve come across content comparing this to a “Mobile Kit N1,” that product has been discontinued. The Creator Kit and Creator Expansion Kit are the current, supported options.
Where to Buy
Both the Creator Kit and Creator Expansion Kit can be purchased directly, with full specs and installation guides available on the GrowSpace UWB kit page.
Final Note
The core technology behind both kits is the same UWB positioning system — the difference is in connection method, kit contents, and whether you need 2D or 3D data.
Both kits are designed by GrowSpace and can be used directly in real projects.
